Welcome to Year 2. The class teacher is Mrs Marsh and the teaching assistants are Mrs Hester and Mrs Brogan.
Children in Year 2 develop the ability to be increasingly independent in their learning.
Their, class, group and independent work continues to follow the National Curriculum guidelines as outlined for Year 2.
The children will continue to revise and extend their knowledge of spellings and sounds. During speaking and listening the children will be learning to present ideas, describe, explain, give opinions, retell, ask questions and perform. Grammar and sentence structure will continue to enhance our writing of recounts, poetry, letter writing, narratives and information texts.
In reading the children's progress continues to be closely monitored through guided and independent reading tasks.
In Maths, we will learn to extend our knowledge and apply this knowledge to problem solving and investigations. This means that a component of Mathematics taught must be to reason, question, reflect and discuss strategies in order to answer questions.
Our Geography, History and Science skills and knowledge are taught through a range of topics, for example: Near and Far, Weather, The Great Fire of London, Oceans and Seas, Toys from the Past, Plants, Light, Dark and the Wonders of Space, Forces and Materials. We also enjoy extending our learning in Forests School.
Art and Design Technology are areas which provide focus on the work of different artists and our interpretation using a variety of techniques and materials. Our topics give us the opportunity to design and make mechanisms, weather implements and features for our school garden.
In ICT we use word processing, programming, graphics and e-safety knowledge to enhance our learning in all areas of the curriculum.
