Welcome to Year 1. My name is Mrs Stockdale and I am the Year 1 Teacher, our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Brogan.
In English, each day, the children are engaged in a variety of structured ability grouped learning experiences.
The children in Year 1 are learning to write in response to a range of texts which include: recounts, poetry, instructions, narratives and information reports.
A daily focus on phonemic blending, spelling, reading, writing, speaking and listening is given.
In Mathematics, we continue to work through focus areas relating to the curriculum in a variety of fun and engaging activities. We use the Interactive Whiteboard, games and structured learning time with the teacher to consolidate our knowledge of concepts taught.
In Science, our topics have included Everyday Materials, Animals and Living Things and Seasonal Changes.
Our Geography and History units of work have provided us with opportunities to research and learn about castles, famous people, our local area and hot and cold environments.
Together with Year 2 on Thursdays, we enjoy the expertise of our music specialist and our very own Chef, who leads us in cooking culinary delights each week!
In Art we are learning about various artists, including Van Gogh and Monet. We will examine techniques used and have made our very own interpretations of these art works. Recently we have been examining sculptures in nature. We have used clay to create our own natural sculptures.
Our Design and Technology units of work have given us opportunities to design and make moving pictures, lunch boxes and features for our school garden.
